Subject: Viet Nam and USA Sister City Relationships

Dear Colleagues,

I have been asked if there are any cities in the USA which have a 'Sister City' relationship with a city in Viet Nam. If you know of any, please contact me as soon as possible (even better if you have details).

Thanks, Vern

New Haven, Connecicut established what we called the first one back in the 90s. Nicole Vecchi and Kathy Schas and I have all moved on, but Ben Kiernan (History, Yale) would know who's in charge. Certainly other cities did, too. John McAuliff at the Fund for Reconciliation in New York would know which.

Wow, I actually outpaced Vern "Mr. Webmaster" Weitzel: Me, myself and I found the following:

Vietnam

Haiphong

Seattle, WA

Hue

New Haven, CT

Ho Chi Minh City

San Francisco, CA

Vung Tau City

Newport Beach, CA

on the following web page:

Actually, I thought I remembered a lot of ballyhoo recently when SF Mayor Willy Brown visited TPHCM. And note that affluent Newport Beach, 'uncomfortably close' to unforgiving Garden Grove, is big enough to link up with Vung Tau - 'though they both have off-shore oil industries that like to dirty things up!!

I'd like to collectively thank everyone for responding to my request about sister cities. My colleague, Allen Jennings of the UN Volunteers office, requested this information. And good to see my home town has a sister city relationship. Aside from the US, do other countries have similar relationships?

Cheers, Vern
