Aloha Judith,
I thought it might be good to add a link on the VSG site of online photo
resources, the link to the Southeast Asia Picture Database, which we
created here at the University of Hawaii last year. The link is
http://www.hawaii.edu/cseas/outreach/picarchive.html
For Vietnam, there are 1,502 photographs available, covering all regions,
of "everyday life" in 2001, 2002 and 2003. I personally took most of the
central and northern Vietnam photos for the center in 2003. The database
is designed for use by teachers and students, for free, the Center for
Southeast Asian Studies just asks for recognition (details are on the
site).
