Dear list:

Would anyone know exactly what type of diplomatic presence (embassy, consulate, mission) France kept in Hanoi between 1954 and 1965, and who has custody of the archives of that presence?

Thank you.

Pierre

To Pierre Asselin

I think you had a consulate in Hanoi and Embassy in Saigon. See Brocheux (dir) : du conflit d'Indochine au conflit indochinois ; de Quirielle : à Hanoi sous les bombes américaines (he was a diplomat in Hanoi in the 60ies) and the souvenirs by Charles Fourniau (who worked in Hanoi for the communist newspaper L'Humanité) which have been published by Les Indes savantes : le Vietnam que j'ai connu. See also on the IRSEA web location, les Cahiers de l'Irsea n°1 dedicated to Vietnamese/French cooperation (around Charles Fourniau) with a text by Pierre Journoud on this topic.
