Subject: [Vsg] Study on adultery in VN

Dear list,

Yesterday, I asked a Korean young woman, who has been studying and working in Vietnam for ~10 years if she wants to get married to a Vietnamese. She said: "No! Especially after reading a study on adultery in Vietnam written by an American scholar... The study reveals an amazing number of Vietnamese men who very care about the woman he loves at the beginning, then tend to be unfaithful to her after 2-3 years, the knot of marriage becomes nothing..." She is passionate about Confucianism, and she does not accept that.

This reminds me of a confidential lesson I was given (by my bf's mother!) a few years ago: "As a woman, whatever happens, you should forever stay as a haven for your family's happiness. 8 in every 10 men have "outside relationships," so don't be depressed if you man belongs to that 8 group. The man will respect you and come home..." Hah, then to be a woman is your misfortune, you'll be inferior to man to earn a 'suffering medal'?

I'm just too young to experience the truth, but many novels, stories have described this social phenomenon in Viet Nam. Modern time, modern generations and no more arranged marriage but a lot more adulterous relationships and divorces. The traditional family values are declining...

I'm very interested to know if there are studies on this subject available online. Thanks a lot!

Best,
