Hi VSGers,

I'm studying Tropical Modernism as an architectural style in Hanoi and would love some leads if anyone has any. I'm particularly interested in any material related to the design of Dai Hoc Back Khoa but info on any of the national universities in Hanoi would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi David,

I'm not quite sure what "tropical modernism" refers to. Are you thinking of the late colonial style introduced by the French or about the Russian-influenced urban planning and architectural styles of the 1960s-70s (which Dai Hoc Back Khoa is an instance of). You will find some information on both styles in the following texts :

- Pédelahore, C. (1992). Hanoi, miroir de l'architecture indochinoise. Architectures françaises d'outre-mer. F. Decoster and D. Klouche. Lièges: 293-318.
