As I indicated before, the UCI talk (October 27) on U.S.-Vietnam Relations
by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Marine and the Q&A are posted as an
mp3 audio file online at:
http://webfiles.uci.edu/dtsang/audio/Ad051027.mp3.
In his talk, he said the U.S. recognized the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
and not the "other" flag.
My 1999 article on the origins of the other flag
appears here:
Scars and Stripes? What's Behind Those Yellow Flags in Little Saigon?
http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/99/26/news-tsang.php
He also said bilateral relations should not be held hostage by any one
issue.
He did mention on his visit to the UCI Southeast Asian Archive that he
couldn't find a good one-volume history of Vietnam. Any suggestions?
