Subject: demographic sources on ethnic chinese women in vietnam

Does anyone have demographic sources of information on ethnic chinese population in southern vietnam (or vietnam generally) in terms of sex ratios- i'm trying to learn more whether or not there was a sex imbalance in the numbers of Hoa men and women fleeing vietnam in the 1970s and especially in 1979. It seems to be the case that there were more Hoa men than Hoa women leaving thus leaving a sex/gender imbalance in vietnam, similar to Goodkind's conclusions of the situation for vietnamese men and women in 1975 after the war. basically i'm trying to find out if the "double marriage squeeze" can be applied to the ethnic chinese population post1979 as well???

anything would be of help, thanks so much!!!

sincerely, Thanh

Hi Thanh,

You can download Vietnam census microdata 1989 and 1999 from IPUMS International project at http://www.ipums.org/international/index.html.
