Dear All,

As part of the Hanoi Millennium events, I am working with the University of Hawaii's Globalization Research Center and the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association to create a website and organize a conference.

The website is on the Hanoi wiki and is called Hanoi: Public City. I encourage you to take a look at http://hanoi.org.vn/publiccity/.

We are still developing this site. The frontpage explains what we expect to do. We are trying to create a space for discussion and representation of issues related to Hanoi past and future. We have one blog on public space started. We are trying to get two more up and running - one on city and countryside and another on architecture and urban design. If any of you are interested or know someone who might be interested, contact me offline at edgeplanet@gmail.com.

We will soon post notice of a funding process for online exhibitions. These exhibitions would include short films, 3d models, audio books, photo essays and other forms of online media friendly ways of representing the past and the future of Hanoi. We also will encourage visitors to the site to send us photos, short films, and other media that we can post on the exhibition area of the site.

We will also set up a library with academic articles and presentations. Your articles and power points are welcomed.

To participate in the blogs or access the library, you will have to register. This is pretty simple. You sign in under a name and email address, and wordpress will send you a password.

Please take a look and register if you are interested.

Your suggestions are always welcome.

The Conference will be held at the International Conference Center on Le Hong Phong street on October 11 and 12. Like the website, we are focusing on Hanoi Past and Future. While we can't avoid the present, we prefer to use this conference as an opportunity to consider the past as Hanoi marches into a very different future. Panel topics and contact information are listed on the VUPDA site below.
