7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
8.2.6Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution and the fundamental liberties ensured by the Bill of Rights.
8.3.4. Understand how the conflicts between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton resulted in the emergence of two political parties (e.g., view of foreign policy, Alien and Sedition Acts, economic policy, National Bank, funding and assumption of the revoluÂtionary debt).

2. Describe the origins and impact the XYZ affair had on the U.S. (8th Grade).
3. Explain if John Adams should be considered a great President. (8th Grade)

Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and answer the daily essential question using the information in the short passage.
Direct Instruction (20 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: model/direct teach: Geo Challenge Gupta Empire: Teacher will go over the directions to the assignment and were to get the information on their Google Classroom Stream.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: XYZ Affair: Teacher will provide further information about the XYZ affair that was not covered in the video. Teacher will provide students with examples to assure that students understand the impact it had on the United States.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Geo Challenge Gupta Empire: Teacher will go over the answers to the Geo Challenge Map and discuss all the key points of interests students were asked to label.
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: XYZ Affair VBQ: Teacher will go over the answer to the Video Based Questions of the XYZ affair.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Book to Paper: Geo Challenge Gupta Empire: Students will be tasked to label a series of geographical features on their map thus identifying the Gupta Empire. They will label seas, rivers, plateaus, mountain regions, etc. Students will answer questions that will test their map reading skills.
8th Grade-SDAIE: VBQ/Video Clip: XYZ Affair: Students will watch a video and answer questions dealing with the XYZ affair.
8th Grade-SDAIE: QuickWrite: Ranking Adams: Students will use the information they learned about John Adams and decide what type of President he should be considered; Good or bad and provide 3 examples to justify their ranking.
Homework.
