7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
8.2.6Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution and the fundamental liberties ensured by the Bill of Rights.
8.3.4. Understand how the conflicts between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton resulted in the emergence of two political parties (e.g., view of foreign policy, Alien and Sedition Acts, economic policy, National Bank, funding and assumption of the revolutionary debt).

1. Understand the rise of Gupta Empire.
2. Identify locations of achievements of the Gupta Empire. (7th Grade)
3. Identify key events that impacted Adam’s Presidency. (8th Grade).

Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and answer the daily essential question using the information in the short passage.
Direct Instruction (20 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Close Read/Annotate/Talk to Text: Rise of Gupta Empire: Teacher will read the section of the Gupta Empire. Teacher will use talk to text after each paragraph to guide students in annotating the passage.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Adam’s Digital Outbreak: Teacher will go over the instructions to the digital outbreak. Students will have to answer 8 questions dealing with Adam’s Presidency.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Gupta Government Venn Diagram: Teacher and students will use the reading to complete a Venn Diagram that compares and contrast the Mauryan and Gupta Empire.
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Adam’s Digital Outbreak: Teacher will go over the answer to the Digital Outbreak.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Book to Paper: Gupta Vocabulary: Students will define tier 3 vocabulary words that will be used during the Gupta Empire Unit and will place a picture that symbolizes the word. Teacher will go over the answers.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Book to Paper: Gupta Achievement: Students will identify the key locations of the achievements throughout the Gupta Empire.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Adam’s Digital Outbreak: Students will answer the review questions dealing with the Presidency of John Adams.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Adam’s Kahoot: Students will participate in a Kahoot game dealing with questions about Adam’s Presidency. Students will compete for points.
Homework.
