Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about the Mayan achievements by:
Explaining the Maya concept of time.
Understanding the importance of roads to the Mayan empire.

SDAIE: Metacognition: Starter Quiz: Students will take a starte quiz based on the weeks Starters taken from "This Day in History" from the History Channel.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach: Maya Achievements: Teacher will go over the directions on how to complete the assignment dealing with the Mayan achievements. Teacher will explain that students will have 12 minutes to complete each section and where to find the answers. Students without computers will be given readings to complete the sections. Teacher will explain how to complete the Focus Note section of their assignment since it is the first time it is being introduced.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Scaffold/Direct Teach/Video Clip/Graphic Organizer: Mayan Achievements: Teacher will go over the answers to the Maya achievements, provide further explanations and show video clips. For Periods 5 and 6, teacher will break down and scaffold the close paragraph in section. Teacher will scaffold the video into three parts and after each portion of the video is shown teacher will have students within their group try and figure the answer.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Close Paragraph/Cornell Notes/Focus Notes/VBQ/Video Clips: Mayan Achievements: Students will be able to identify and describe the Mayan achievements dealing with the creation of the zero, building aqueducts, astronomy, and building of roads. Students will be given 12 minutes per section to watch a video and completing their graphic organizer that has a close paragraph, Cornell notes, focus notes, and video based questions. Students will work on the calendar section and roads. If there is time, students can go back and work on the other topics, math and water.
Homework.
EdPuzzle: due Friday by 5 p.m.
Closure (3 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
