Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the difference art style and characteristics of Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance art.
2. Identify three types of art as either Classical, Medieval, or Renaissance.
Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunk section of "This Day in History" and answer the essential question in complete sentences.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Exploring Art Matrix: Teacher will go over the answers they should have gotten from the literature that classifies the three types of arts we will be discussing; Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance. Teacher will provide further clarification of each category.
Guided Practice (x min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Exploring Art Matrix: Teacher will pace the room to ensure students are on task and to be available to answer students questions. If any student finishes their Independent Practice on time teacher will check and make note on their work to ensure full points.
Independent Practice (12 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/Matrix: Exploring Art Matrix: Students will read page 462-464 and complete a matrix that guides them in being able to identify the three types of art styles, how they were presented, and why they were created during the Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance time period. Students will also make note of the at least 3 characteristics that sets each of the art styles apart.
