Correlation to State Content Standards
7.3: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
8.2.6: Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution and the fundamental liberties ensured by the Bill of Rights.
8.4.1: Describe the country’s physical landscapes, political divisions, and territorial expansion during the terms of the first four presidents.
8.4.3: Analyze the rise of capitalism and the economic problems and conflicts that accompanied it

Students will be able to:
1. Understand and Explain the rise of the Gupta Empire. (7th Grade)
2. Understand and Explain the events that took place during Jefferson’s Presidency. (8th Grade).

Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and answer the daily essential question using the information in the short passage.
Direct Instruction (20 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach: Gupta Empire Review: Teacher go over the directions and what past assignments students should use to answer the test review questios.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Jefferson’s Presidency Review: Teacher will go over the assignment and directions. Teacher will go over the first problem with the students. Will also explain what assignments students can go back and review to answer the series of 9 riddled type question as Jefferson recounts his presidency.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Gupta Empire Review: Teacher and students will go over the answers to the test review assignment.
8th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Jefferson’s Presidency Review: Teacher will go over the answers with the students.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
7th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Gupta Empire Review: Students will answer a series of questions dealing with the Gupta Empire in preparation of the their test for the next class session.
8th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Jefferson’s Presidency: Students will complete a series of riddled type questions as Jefferson recounts his presidency. Students will have to figure out what event is being described.
Homework.
