7.6.8: Understand the importance of the Catholic church as a potlitcal, intellectual, and aesthetic institution.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about the Middle Ages by:
1. Understanding & Identifying the hierarchy, role and responsibility of clergy from the Catholic Church.
2. Understanding how the church gained power in the Middle Ages.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: Board to Paper: Daily Starter: Students will write down the objective in their agenda.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach/: Increasing Power of the Church Cornell Notes: Teacher will model how to complete the assignments. Teacher will progress monitor and grade their assignments as they complete their section.
Guided Practice (X min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Progress Monitoring: Catholic Church: After students complete their section and has been graded by the teacher, teacher will go over the assignments and provide a small lecture with explanation, clarification and video clips.
Independent Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/talk to the text/Grpahic Organizer: Increasing Power of the Church: Students will complete the section that explains how the church gained power during the middle ages. There are four topics were students will be completing in sections; read the passage, look at the hints, write down the evidence in their Cornell notes.
Homework.

Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition/Book to Paper: GeoChallenge: Medieval Europe: Students will complete a map skill challenge where they will label the new size of the Roman Empire, Papal states, bodies of water, and continents. Students will answer an essential question that has the recall the old Roman Empire and explain how Europe has changed after the fall of Rome.
Homework.
