Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of Islam in the Middle Ages.
7.2.1: Identify the physical features and describe the climate of the Arabian peninsula, its relationship to surrounding bodies of land and water, and nomadic and sedentary ways of life.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
I am learning about the physical and political geography of the Arabian Peninsula.
1. Locate and Label the Arabian Peninsula, its major cities, and the bodies of water and landmasses adjacent to it.
2. Examine how people adapted to their environment.
3. Understand the items that were traded amongst the silk roads
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Starter: Students will read today's "This Day in History" section. Using the CLAIM that was provided students will need to find one evidence from the reading to support it or explain why there is non.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/Annotate/Talk to Text: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Teacher will introduce the geographical term PENINSULA to the students and ask them to discuss the term with their group to figure out the definition. After 2 minutes teacher will show a picture of the Mayan Peninsula and ask for thumbs up or down if it is a peninsula. Teacher will ask students for the definition of Peninsula verify and check for understanding on the picture again.
After that teacher will lead students in a close paragraph introduction of the Arabian Peninsula. Students will annotate new information dealing with the geography of the Arabian Peninsula. Teacher will use talk to to text to guide students annotations.
Teacher will introduce the term CULTURAL DIFFUSION and provide an example of it by quickly explaining the history of the taco de al pastor. Video Clip will be played also.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Teacher will go over the annotations and provide further explanations and clarifications.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Text to Speech/Annotations/EQ/Chunked Reading/Sentence Stem: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Students will read and annotate chunked passages from the textbook to be able to explain the geographical impact of the Arabian Peninsula. Students will answer the essential question provided with the reading.
SDAIE: Book to Paper: Map Skills: Students will be given a map of the Arabian Peninsula and be tasked to label the three continents, six major cities of interest and the three seas. Students will use their textbook page 140 and 100 to help them complete the map activity.
Homework.
