7.8: Students analyze the origins, accomplishments, and geographical diffusion of the Renaissance.
7.8.1: Describe the way in which the revival of classical learning and the arts fostered a new interest in humanism.
7.8.2: Explain the importance of Florence in the early stages of the Renaissance and the growth of independent trading (e.g. Venice), with emphasis on the cities' importance in the spread of Renaissance ideas.
7.8.4: Describe the growth and effects of new ways of disseminating information.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunk section of "This Day in History" and answer the essential question in complete sentences.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Video Clip: Cradle of the Renaissance: Teacher will clarify the importance Florence and why it was the birthplace of the Renaissance as we go over the 5 sentence stems from the reading. Teacher will show a short clip that goes along with the reading.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Cradle of the Renaissance: Teacher will go over the answers with the class to classify the three images that they had to classify.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/CLOZE Sentences: Cradle of the Renaissance: Students will read page 475 which is the introduction to the unit of the Renaissance. Once they are done they will complete five CLOZE sentences that will determine if they understand what they read and are able to identify the key factors of why the Renaissance started in Florence.
