Anticipatory Set (10 min.)
Starter: Students will read and identify the 5 W's of events in This Day in History.... Teacher will go over answers with the students.
Direct Instruction (15 min.)
SDAIE: Annotate/Talk to Text/Close Read: The Great Awakening and French and Indian War: Teacher will recap the information from last class meeting. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Colonial Postcard: Teacher will go over the directions on how to complete the postcard. Teacher will also show students how to insert pictures using the software Kami. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Close Read/Talk to Text: Maya Family Life: Teacher will close read the section with the students using talk to the text at the end of the paragraph to check for understanding from the students and provide examples to help bridge that understanding. Go over the answers. (7th Grade)
Guided Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Annotate/Talk to Text/Close Read: The Great Awakening and French and Indian War: Teacher will go over the answers to what should've been annotated and along the way clarify the reading and check for understanding. Finish from last class. (8th Grade).
SDAIE: TPS: Maya Class Structure: Teacher will go over the answers to the section. Teacher will present further examples and pictures to ensure student understand of the passage and concept of class structure. (7 Grade)
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Book to Paper: America before the Warfare: Students will analyze a map illustrating the countries that occupied the united states and identify that on their map by labeling using different colors to denote the three countries that occupied the United States prior to the French and Indian War. They will then shade in the same map after the French and Indian War and compare and contrast both maps by answering an Essential Question. (8th Grade) Finish from last class.
SDAIE: QuickWrite: Colonial Postcard: Students will create a postcard highlighting the key benefits of a colony of their choosing. They will take the role of a colonist writing to a family member encouraging why they need to leave Europe and come to that specific colony. Students will create a slogan for the colony and provide 3 images dealing with the colonies geography, climate, economy, and politics, etc).
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Focus Notes/Talk to text/Whisper Read: Maya Family Life: Students will read the following section understanding the family dynamics of Mayan Life. Once they are done with the reading, the teacher will use focus questions/Talk to the text to help guide students in understanding the important details to post on the their Cornell Notes.
