Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about the 7 continents of the world by:
Identifying the location of the 7 continents.
Understanding key facts about each continent that makes them unique.

RH7: Integrate visual information (e.g., in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts
WHST 9: Draw evidence from information texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 8: Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: Chunk Reading/5 W's: Starter: Students will read a chunk passage from History's "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting them in the passage by color.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/TPS/Sentence Stems/Video Clip: 7 Continents of the World: Teacher will front load the term CONTINENT. Teacher will give the definition “one of the 7 LARGE LAND MASS of the world” or “Big Chunk of Land” after showing a video that has the answer. Have students repeat the definition. Work with the students to complete box 1. If students have crayons they can use them if not have them shade in where they life and circle the continent they want to visit. Have students share within their groups were they want to visit and why.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Model/TPS/Sentence Stems: 7 Continents of the World: Teacher will model to students how to complete their assignment by highlighting key phrases within the passages to help them research the answer by using Google.
Independent Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: Graphic Organizer/TPS/Sentence Stems: 7 Continents: Students will use their the internet to answer 6 boxes dealing with the 7 continents. They will be asked to identify the continents and be asked to research the Internet certain facts about each continent. Students will have 5 minutes per box to complete on their own and 2 minutes to share their answers with their group members.
Homework.
EdPuzzle: 5 Themes of Geography due by Friday August 16, 2024 by 5 p.m.
Closure (4 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
