Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2.3: Explain the significance of the Qur'an and the Sunnah as the primary sources of Islamic beliefs, practice, law, and their influence in Muslims' daily life.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
Identify and Explain myths or facts of Islamic beliefs, practice, law, and daily Muslim life.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: Quiz: Students will take their Starter Quiz based on last weeks starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Model: Padlet: Teacher model how to complete the assignment using the program Padlet. Teacher will guide them in how to click and drag the posts and edit the posts so that students could provide their explanation. Teacher will take student questions.
Guided Practice (X min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Islam Myth or Fact: Teacher will pace the room checking on student work. As students finish their assignment, they will raise their hands and teacher will check their answers. If students have something wrong teacher will inform them.
Independent Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition: Graphic Organizers: Islam Myth or Fact: Students will be given 8 statements which the students will have to identify if they are Myths or Facts. Students can use their Graphic Organizer that they have completed (GeoChallenge: Arabian Peninsula, Origins of Islam, and Muhammad Spreads Islam) to provide their explanation sentence. Students without a Chromebook will be given a paper handout.
Homework.
EdPuzzle: Islam due by Friday at 5 p.m.
Closure (5 min.)
1. Clean up.
