Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
Decipher who their teacher is based on primary accounts from former students.
Identify the difference between primary and secondary sources
Common Core Literacy Standard
WHST 9: Draw evidence from information texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journal: Students will read a section from "This Day in History" and then find the 5 W's (who, what, when, where, why) from the reading.
Direct Instruction (7 min.)
SDAIE: CLOZE READ: Who is Mr. Moreno: Teacher will cloze read 4 out of 7 accounts with the students. The accounts are previous statements written by former students of Mr. Moreno. Statements are filled with advice and information on how to succeed in History class and the type of teacher Mr. Moreno is.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: CER/Think a Loud: Who is Mr. Moreno: Mr. Moreno will guide students in the CER method of writing and work with students on how to write a Topic Sentence (CLAIM). Teacher will then utilize think aloud to guide students in writing their Evidence and Reason sentence.
Independent Practice (12 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes: Classroom Procedures and Expectations.: Student’s will role play certain classroom procedures and continue working on them until they perform and understand procedure at 95% effectiveness.
SDAIE: Think Pair Share: Social Skills: Students will be introduced to the Social Skills. They will watch a movie clip and determine 3 social skills that are not being followed within the classroom.

Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
