Correlation to State Content Standards
7.8: Students analyze the origins, accomplishments, and geographical diffusion of the Renaissance.
7.8.1: Describe the way in which the revival of classical learning and the arts fostered a new interest in humanism.
7.8.2: Explain the importance of Florence in the early stages of the Renaissance and the growth of independent trading (e.g. Venice), with emphasis on the cities' importance in the spread of Renaissance ideas.
7.8.4: Describe the growth and effects of new ways of disseminating information.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the impact and importance the city of Florence played during the Renaissance.
2. Explain the impact Humanism had on society during the Renaissance.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunk section of "This Day in History" and answer the essential question in complete sentences.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: The City of Florence: Teacher will clarify the importance of the city of Florence as the teacher goes over the answers to the Cornell Notes. Will provide further examples and visuals.
Guided Practice (X min.)
SDAIE: TPS: The City of Florence: Teacher will go over the answers with the class to classify the three images that they had to classify.
Independent Practice (12 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/CER/QuickWrite: Humanism: Students will read page 468-469 and complete their Cornell Notes. Students will be guided by talk to the text clues on their Cornell Notes that will help them select the important information and help them understand why Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance. Students will also answer an essential question.
