Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Stater: Students will answer an essential question baed on a historical figure for Black History Month in their starter.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Origins of Christianity: Teacher will lecture on the the origins of Christianity. This should be a review from last year. Teacher will discuss the life, teachings, and death of Jesus of Nazareth. Will provide visuals to go along with the story.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS:The Punic Wars: Teacher and students will go over the Cornell Notes. Teacher will go over more information about the Punic Wars and provide further clarification.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Talking to the Text/Movie Clip: Punic Wars: Students will read pages 20-21 and complete two sections of the Cornell Notes that cover the first Punic wars and explains how Rome began to expand and take territory away from Carthage. Students will watch a movie clip describing Hannibal's expedition and students will take down 2-3 more notes not mentioned in the reading in purple.
SDAIE: Video Based Questions/Sentence Stems/Movie Clips: Spartacus Slave Revolt: Students will watch and answer a series of Video Based Questions that explain the economy of slavery that was established by Rome as it expanded its territory around the Mediterranean Sea. Students will also be able to explain the cause and effect of the slave revolt started by Spartacus.
