Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: CER: Students will read a chunked section of "This Day in History" and use the information to find evidence to support the given CLAIM. If no evidence is there to support the claim students will need to say so.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/Cornell Notes: Migration to Medina: Teacher lead students on a close read of the first paragraph of the section 5 in their textbook on page 122-123. Students will uncover and trace the events that lead to Muhammad finally unifying the Arabian Peninsula under the religion of Islam. (November 9, 2022)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Close Sentence/TPS/Nearpod: Review Origins of Islam: Teacher will direct students in a teacher led Nearpod that focuses on the Origins of Islam. This will act as a review to check for understanding of the last two weeks of lecture, reading, and Cornell Notes students have taken. (November 10, 2022)
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: CER/QuickWrite/Talking to the Text: Teacher will work with students to answer a QuickWrite question dealing about the impact Muhammad had on the Arabian Peninsula. Students will complete the writing using the CLAIM, STATEMENT, EVIDENCE format. (November 10, 2022)
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Text to Speech/Cornell Notes/Talking to Text: Muhammad's Teachings Meet with Rejections: Students will be using the Text to Speech function on the Chromebook to have section 4 on page 121 read to them. The section deals with Muhammad spreading the teachings of Islam in Mecca and the opposition he encountered and how he dealt with it. As students read the section they will complete the Cornell Notes in their Graphic Organizer along with answering the Essential Question. (November 9, 2022)
SDAIE: Text to Speech/Cornell Notes/Talking to Text: Migration to Medina: Students will be using the Text to Speech function on the Chromebook to read Lesson 9 section 5 on their online TCI book or read page 122-123 of their textbook. Students will complete a series of Cornell Notes that have hints to be used as "Talking to the Text" cues to guide their comprehension. The section will focus on how Muhammad spread Islam throughout the Arabian Peninsula uniting all the tribes while taking over Mecca ending with his death. (November 10, 2022)
