Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journal: Students will locate the 5 W's from the chunk passage of "This Day in History"
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Close Read/Annotate/Chunk/Video Clips: Rise of Inca Civilization: Teacher will close read a chunked passage from the textbook dealing with the rise of the Inca civilization. After each paragraph students will annotate the passage from the hints given from the teacher and then watch a video clip (2-3 min) that covers what was read.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Inca Vocabulary: Teacher will go over the vocabulary words for the unit and provide further explanation and examples.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Talk to Text: Inca Class Structure: Students will will read pages 412-413 in their textbook and complete the Cornell Notes, essential question, and make a connection to their learning. The Cornell Notes have a series of hints and clues that will guide students in their reading and ensuring they take down proper and precise notes to ensure students meet today's objective.
