7.7.5: Describe the Meso-American achievements in astronomy and mathematics, including the development of the calendar and the Meso-American knowledge of seasonal changes to the civilizations’ agricultural systems.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.

Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
I am learning about Inca culture.
1. Describe the daily roles assigned to each member in the Inca family unit.
2. Identify and Explain the location, rise, social class structure, and achievements established by the Inca civilization.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: CER: Students will read a chunked passage from "This Day in History" provided by the History Channel and be able to identify the evidence to suppor the CLAIM that is provided.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Inca Family and Religion: Teacher will lecture on the Inca family life as the teacher displays the answers to yesterday's class assignment. Teacher will clarify provide examples and answer questions from students.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Inca Review: Teacher will go over answers to the Inca review questions after students are given the oppurtunity to answer the questions as a group.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Quad/TPS/Carousel: Inca Class Structure: Students will work on one the four topics. They will have 12-15 minutes to read their section and answer a series of questions. Once they have individually answered their questions, they will get together with their group and discuss their answers. Students will make changes to their set of questions. Once they have agreed, students will then go around and meet up with another member of a different group and they will share their answers. Students will repeat this until all four sections are done. Students will correct their answers as we go over them in class.
SDAIE: TPS/Graphic Organizer/Video Clips: Inca Review: Students will work on answering 15 review questions dealing with the Inca Civilization. Question range from their rise, achievements, social structure, and fall. Students will be able to use their completed graphic organizer and their books to complete the assignment. Students who finish within the time will notify the teacher to verify completion to assure full points.
