Correlation to State Content Standards
7.3: Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Describe the experience of taking an Imperial China Government Test.
2. Explain tier 2 and 3 vocabulary words that will be used in Unit 4.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunked passage from "This day in History" and be able identify the topic/claim of the passage.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/ Job Posting: Teacher will lead students on a close reading about a job posting that is made up but would be similar to what one would see during the Han Dynasty. Then teacher will guide students in class discussion as they answer three questions dealing with the job posting and the revelance of today times.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: GeoChallenge: Imperial China Map Skills: Teacher will go over the correct labeling of the map. Studens will have time in between the four questions to make their adjustments.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Realia/Metacognition: Moreno's Dynasty Reflection: Students will reflect on the quick test they took yesterday to determine their future salary worth. Students will do this my answering three reflection questions.
SDAIE: TPS/Visuals: Imperial China Vocabulary: Students will be given five tier 2 and 3 vocabulary words. They will work with their groups to decipher their meaning. After 6 minutes, they will use the visual aids that are provided by the teacher to determine the meaning of the words along with help from their group members.
Homework.
EdPuzzle: China's Geography, due by Friday 5 p.m.
Closure (5 min.)
1. Clean up.
