7.6.3: Understand the development of feudalism, its role in the medieval European economy, the way in which it was influenced by physical geography, and how feudal relationships provided the foundation of political order.
7.6.5: Know the significance of developments in medieval English legal and constitutional practices and their importance in the rise of modern democratic thought and representation.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the impact the Magna Carta had on feudalism.
2. Identify the cause and effect of the bubonic plague during the Middle Ages.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will work on their starter based on "This Day in History" by reading a chunked section and placing the sentences in or of CLAIM, STATEMENT, EVIDENCE, and CONCLUSION.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach/: Feudal hierarchy: Teacher will provide a mini lecture by describing the roles of the feudal society that students should had already completed by watching 4 mini videos. Teacher will provide further examples and clarify responsibilities.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Church Hierarchy: Teacher will go over the answers to the hierarchy system of the Christian church and provide further explanation.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Graphic Organizer/Chunked reading/Text to Read: Medieval Europe: Students will read pages 66-67 in their book. The book has three chunked readings that describe the churches hierarchy system during the Middle Ages and the same one that is still used today. Students will write down the order of the clergy and provide the role and responsibility for each one.
Homework.

Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Feudal Society: Teacher will provide a mini lecture on the roles and responsibility of society under feudalism. Teacher will go over the role of the monarch, lords/ladies, knights, and peasants. Teacher will also clarify how feudalism works and the distribution of land.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach/: Feudal hierarchy: Teacher will provide a mini lecture by describing the roles of the feudal society that students should had already completed by watching 4 mini videos. Teacher will provide further examples and clarify responsibilities.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Chunk Reading/Text to Speech/Cornell Notes/lexile/Talk to text: King John & Magna Carta : Students will complete a chunked reading that the lexile has been dropped to 6th grade reading level. They can also chose to use the text to speech function on kami or chomebook and a spanish chunked version will be provided for ELD students. Students will then complete their Cornell Notes that the teacher has provided hints on by using talk to the text to guide their reading.
