Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Log: The New Deal and FDR 5 W's
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Discussion: Decline Roman Republic: Teacher will explain how the Roman Republic declined after the students are done with the reading.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Think Pair Share: Cloze Paragraph: Decline of the Republic: Teacher will go over the answers to the cloze paragraph with the students.
SDAIE: Cloze Reading: Rome Becomes an Empire: Teacher will lead students on a reading of the section on page 49 and discuss the reading after each paragraph.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/Close Paragraph: Decline of the Republic: Students will read page 49 by themselves. Once students are done they will listen to the teacher debrief and clarify the reading. Students will then go and complete the Close Paragraph summary about the section to check their understanding.
SDAIE: CER: Rome Becomes an Empire: Students will write a CLAIM to the guiding question about how Rome became an Empire. Then they will include 3 pieces of evidence that supports their CLAIM based on the reading.
Homework.
