Anticipatory Set (3 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read their starters, write a question (DOK 1) and then underline or highlight the answer within the text.
Direct Instruction (15 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Two World Collide: Teacher will provide a brief lecture explaining the origins of the Crusades as the class labels the Christian and Muslim Empires on their Graphic Organizer.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Vocabulary: Teacher will go over the answer and provide further explanation of the terms and provide visual.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Vocabulary: Crusade Tier 3 Terms: Students will define 4 terms and provide an explanation in their own words with the tier 3 terms for this unit.
SDAIE: Talk to the text: Holy Land: Students will analyze a map of the Holy Land that depicts how the Holy Land has been divided amongst the three main religions. They will answer a series of 3 questions. They will also explain why the Holy Land is important to all three religions by focusing on three sights; Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Dome of the Rock, and the Western Wall.
