Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will take their starter quiz based on last weeks starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Fall of the Roman Empire: Teacher will explain and clarify reasons that lead to the Fall of Rome based on the reading students completed on Friday.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Emperor Diocletian: Teacher and students will go over the video based questions dealing with the problems faced by Diocletian and how he planned on solving them.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Video Based Questions/Sentence Stems: Emperor Diocletian: Students will watch two video clips provided by the teacher in which they will analyze and explain the problems faced by Diocletian and how he decided to solve the problem with the Roman Empire.
SDAIE: Whisper Read/EQ/Evidence: Fall of the Roman Empire: Students will read page 42 in their textbook titled "The End of the Roman Empire in the West." Using their graphic organizer that is categorized into four topics; Economic, Political, Social, and Weakening Borders; students will find evidence from the reading that explains how those topics ultimately led to the fall of Rome. Students will then answer the essential question and decide which of the four topics they think was the overall reason for the fall of Rome.
