Correlation to State Content Standards
4.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the physical and human geographic features that define places and regions in the world.
4.1.1: Explain the use of coordinate grid system of latitude and longitude to determine the absolute locations of places in the Earth.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. locate absolute location of cities on a map using latitude and longitude.
2. Map and Analyze coordiante points to determine the validity of the Bermuda Triangle.

RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Stater: 5 W’s: Students will complete their starter by reading their daily passage of “This Day in History” and identifying the Who, What, When, Where, and Why from the passage. Daily short task to improve reading and comprehension skills. Teacher will take attendance.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Latitude and Longitude: Teacher will instruct students on how to use lines of latitude and longitude to find absoute location on the map. Teacher will instruct students step by step on two examples, then teachr will scaffold two more before students go on their own.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Brain Pop 3-2-1: Teacher will go over the answers with the students to the 3-2-1 dealing with lines of latitude and longitude. Teacher already checked the students that completed the assignment for homework.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition: Lines of Latitude and Longitude: Students will complete finding the absolute location of cities on a map by finding or plotting the points on the map using lines of latitude and longitude.
SDAIE: Book to Paper: World Continents: Students will identify the 7 continents of the world using the word bank provided.
Homework.
