Correlation to State Content Standards
7.3: Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Label key geographical locations of China on a map.
2. Describe the experience of taking an Imperial China Government Test.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunked passage from "This day in History" and be able identify the topic/claim of the passage.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Model: Moreno's Dynasty Test: Teacher will go over the direciton to the Dynasty Test they will be taking. Teacher will explain to students these were examples of test the emperor of China would have to ensure only the best citizens were able to get the government jobs.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: GeoChallenge: Imperial China Map Skills: Teacher will go over the correct labeling of the map. Studens will have time in between the four questions to make their adjustments.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Book to Paper: GeoChallenge: Imperial China Map Skills: Students will be asked to label seas, oceans, mountain ranges, deserts, and rivers on their map. They will use their textbook pages 264 and 598. They will use 598 for questions 1 and 2, and page 264 for questions 3 and 4.
SDAIE: Realia/Metacognition: Moreno's Dynasty: Students will understand what it would have felt like by taking an imperial government test. Students will try to answer 3 questions taken from a random IQ test. Students will understand that the number of correct questions will determine their earning power for themselves and their families.
Homework.
