7.5: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilization of Medieval Japan.
7.5.1: Describe the significance of Japan's proximity to China and Korea and the intellectual, linguistic, religious, and philosophical influence of those countries on Japan.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Identify the key geographical location of Japan.
2. Understand the impact of Japan's geographical and natural dangers that affect Japan.

RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will take their Starter Quiz based from last weeks starters.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Annotate/Chunk/Talk to text: Geo Challenge Introduction: Teacher will will lead students in a chunked reading of the introduction to Japan's geography. Teacher will guide students in talking to the text to help students annotate the passage.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Geo Challenge Introduction: Teacher will go over the answers to the annotations and provide further explanations.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Book to Paper: Geo Challenge Japan Map Skills: Students will use their textbooks pages 318-319 to label a map of Japan. They will label the islands, seas, oceans, and mountains that make up or surround Japan. Students will answer two questions by analyzing the map.
Homework.
