7.3: Students analyze the geographical, political, economic, religiouis, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
I am learning about Imperial China by:
1. Analyzing the validity and fairness of government tests.
2. Identifying key geographical features of China.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Starter: Students will read a chunked passage from "This day in History" and be able identify the evidence to support the Claim given by the teacher.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Realia/Direct Teach: Teacher will go over the directions. Teacher will lead students in a mock imperial classified ad and test to determine who can work for the emperor of China.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Help Wanted/Dynasty Exam: Teacher will go over the answer to the help wanted ad and discuss the problems with that and then the exam.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition: Dynasty Exam: Students will take a mock exam to symbolize the imperial china exams that civilians would have to take to qualify for a government job. Exam is based on 3 questions from an age appropriate IQ test.
SDAIE: TPS: GeoChallenge: Asia: Students will complete a Geo Challenge dealing with China. Students are asked to analyze a physical map and answer 3 questions using the map. The map will have students analyzing and focusing on geographical features that will hinder travel, promote trade, and promote agriculture.
Homework.
