Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Complete the 5 W's on Today's event in History.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Cloze Read: The Rise of Constantinople: Teacher will lead students in a cloze read of the section on page 60.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Justinian Builds New Rome: Teacher and students will review the 5 W’s from the section they just read. Teacher will show students the Hagia Sophia’s virtual tour.
SDAIE: Close Reading/TPS: Rise of Constantinople: Teacher and students will go over the answers to the questions.
Independent Practice (15 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Byzantine Terms: Students will define the key terms and names of the section.
SDAIE: Whisper Read/TPS: Rise of Constantinople: Students will read pg. 60 in their textbook to themselves. Once they are done students will answer three questions after the reading of Rise of Constantinople as been completed.
SDAIE: TPS: Disagreements Split Christianity: Students will analyze the split in the Christian Church by describing the cause and effect of the Schism.
