Understanding Geography.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Identify the locations of the states of the United States.
2. Identify the 7 continents and oceans in the world. (7th Grade)
Common Core Literacy Standard
WHST 9: Draw evidence from information texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
SDAIE: KWL: Map: Students will take a blank map and fill in any states/continents that they know already.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Model: Map: Teacher will go over the directions of the assignment and introduce the atlas, physical, and political map.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Monitor: Teacher will walk around the class monitoring the students.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Map: Students will complete the map activity. 8th graders will work on the United States map and the 7th graders will work on the 7 continents.
Homework.
Complete the 7 continents assignment.
Closure (3 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
