Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teaching: Map of America c. 1700: Teacher will display a map of America during the early 1700's. Teacher will explain how America was claimed by every big country in Europe and they were interested for its raw materials; lumber, furs, and fertile soil. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: TPS/Video Clip: Maya 101: Students will watch a video and decide if the Mayan were civilized and would have to provide one example from the video. Students will discuss their answer with the group then type it in on the Google Stream. (7th Grade)
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Map of America c.1700: Teacher will go over the answer of what the map should look like. Teacher will also go over how to answer the Essential Question. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Cloze Read: Mayan Class Structure: Teacher will Cloze Read the section Class Structure and guide them in filling in the first tier of the class pyramid about the ruler.. (7th Grade).
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Map of America: Students will label their map to identify the political boundaries for the three countries the three countries that held claims to America. Students will also understand the importance of the Appalachian Mountains. Students will answer the daily Exit Question: What countries held claims to America. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Whisper Read/TPS: Maya Class Structure: Students will read the class structure section on page 374-375 and complete the class structure pyramid. They will write down 3 key responsibilities for each class level. (7th grade)
