Correlation to State Content Standards
7.6.6: Discuss the causes and course of the religious Crusades and their effects on the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish populations in Europe, with emphasis on the increasing contact by Europeans with cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean world.
7.6.3: Understand the development of feudalism, its role in the medieval European economy, the way in which its was influenced by physical geography, and how feudal relationships provided the foundation of political order.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Today I am learning about Medieval Europe by:
1. Reviewing the social and political role of feudalism and the Crusades.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/DOK 3/4/Chunk Reading: Daily Starter: Students will read a chunked passage from History Channels "This day in History" and answer the DOK 3 or 4 question of the day by annotating the answer in the passage and using their prior knowledge to answer the question.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model/Direct Teach/: Kahoot & Review : Teacher will explain the directions of the two assignments; Kahoot game and the Middle Ages and Crusades Review.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Progress Monitoring/Mini Lecture: Middle Ages & Crusades: After the 8 minutes are up to complete a series of 3 questions, teacher will go over the answers to them. If students finish the three questions before time expires and are 85% correct students get the point for that group of questions.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition/Nintendo Affect: Kahoot: Students will play a review game on Kahoot where they will be given 10 questions dealing with the Middle Ages.
SDAIE: Quad Groups/TPS/Graphic Organizer: Middle Ages and Crusades Test: Students will use their last 4 classroom graphic organizers to help students answer the 9 review questions. Students will work with their group members to answer the questions. Students will have 8 minutes to answer 3 questions. If questions are answered within that time, teacher will check their answers and if answers are 90% accurate they will get the points for that group of questions before teacher goes over the answers.
