Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: VIP's/Graphic Organizer: Key Players : Teacher will introduce the key players of the Boston Massacre as students write down notes. Notes will be displayed on the screen while teacher explains and gives examples. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Cloze Read/Chunk: Aztec Rise to Power: Teacher will Cloze read the Aztec Introduction section. Will summarize the key points of the reading and add further information. Will help students make a connection. (7th Grade)
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Graphic Organizer/VBQ: Boston Massacre British Accounts: Teacher will review the Jury notes students should have gotten. Teacher will provide DOK 1-4 questions to check for understanding of where Adams is going with the case. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Think Aloud/Annotate: Aztec Rise to Power : Teacher will use think aloud to guide students in annotating the passage. Teacher will go further from the reading and help students make a connections. (7th Grade).
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/Graphic Organizer/VBQ: Boston Massacre British Accounts: Students will watch video clips from HBO's John Adams in which describes the accounts from the perspective of British Captain Prescott. Students will summarize the accounts and then be asked to explain who was at fault. (8th Grade)
SDAIE: Think Aloud/Annotate: Aztec Rise to Power : Students will annotate the passage of the Aztecs. That will be followed by an essential question based on the reading. Students will then watch a video clip dealing with the Aztec rise to power based on what they read (video will help visual learners comprehend what they read). (7th grade)
SDAIE: Picture Annotate: Aztec Rise to Power : Students will look at an Aztec Codex and decipher the origins of the Aztec civilization. They will be asked to identify pictures of the codex that goes along with reading and explain its origins. They will use the reading to help them explain the codex.
Homework
