Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: 5 W's/Chunked Reading: Students will read a passage from "This day in History" and identify the 5 W's.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE:TPS: GeoChallenge Meso America: Teacher will go over the DOK 4 questions students were suppose to complete for Homework. They were to analyze a map and answer the question dealing with which of the three civilizations was best suited for agriculture based on the map activity alone and what problem could they foresee.
SDAIE: Cloze Read: Origins of the Maya Civilization : Teacher will lead a close reading from the textbook page 372. The reading deals with the origins of the Maya civilization. After reading the first paragraph, students will reread the section and look for the Cornell Note that teacher is guiding students to find.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE:TPS: Cornell Notes: Teacher will go over the Cornell Notes students should have gotten from the reading and the "Talk to the Text" clues that were provided in the Cornell Notes.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Map Skill/Visual: Mayan Civilization: Students will use the map on pg. 373 to identify on their map the Mayan territory and 4 key Mayan cities and their location.
SDAIE: Cornell Notes/Talk to the Text: Origins of the Maya: Students will read pg. 372 "The Origins of the Maya" and identify the origins of the Maya by figuring out the Mother Culture of Meso America.
SDAIE: Monitor/TPS: Three Period Maya Civilization: Students will read the remainder of the chapter and take down notes. They will share their answer after 10 minutes and make any changes on their own.
Homework
EdPuzzle: Maya Corn due Friday, August 26, 2022 by 5 p.m.
Closure (5 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
