Anticipatory Set (3 min):
Daily Starter: Students will read short passage of events that happened on "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Tenochtitlan Mural Facts: Teacher will present students with the mural of Tenochtitlan painted by Diego Rivera. Teacher will explain the project in which they will have to identify and explain 10 facts about the Aztec rise to power and how they became an empire.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Tenochtitlan Mural Facts: Teacher will walk students on how to complete the assignment by going through the steps of identifying the Aztecs rise to power by going into the previous works and then using that information to identify it on the mural and provide an explanation.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: metacognition: Tenochtitlan Mural Facts: Students will recall the Rise of the Aztec civilization. They will use their previous graphic organizers to identify the Aztecs Empire from beginning to end within the mural painted by Diego Rivera. As they identify the 10 items they will provide an explanation with at least one historical fact.
