Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2.2: Trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islamic teachings on the connection with Judaism and Christianity.
8.2.2: Analyze the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution and the success of each in implementing the ideals of the Declaration of Independence.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand and Explain the workings behind the Great Compromise and the battle between Big States and Small States. (8th Grade).
2. Understand the issue with slavery and how they would be counted under the Constitution. (8th Grade)
3. Assessed on the origins of Islam and the Arabian Peninsula. (7th Grade).
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (15 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's (who, what, when, where, why).
Direct Instruction (15 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Great Compromise: Teacher will explain the issue dealing with how population was going to be counted which gave two plans and how they settled on one. Students will complete their section in their graphic organizer.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Test procedure: Teacher will review test taking procedures. Teacher will explain to the students what needs to be completed today and will post it on the chat. Students will work on test, flipgrid test response, HW, Missing assignments.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Chunking/TPS: Essential Questions: Teacher and students will read a chunked selection dealing with the reasons why the delegates met for the Constitutional Convention. Teacher will go over the answers to the essential questions following the chunked reading.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Origins of Islam: Teacher and students will review their answers. Teacher will be checking for understanding as students complete their tasks on Nearpod.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Close Reading/Graphic Organizer/Essential Question: Representing the States/Virginia & New Jersey Plan: Students will read a section of the book dealing with the Virginia and New Jersey Plan. As they read the section students will complete their graphic organizer that compares and contrast the plans. Students will be able to conclude how they came to a compromise.
7th Grade-SDAIE: VIP's/Cloze Paragraph/Video Clip: Origins of Islam Review: Students will follow the teacher as the teacher reviews the origins of Islam. Between slides students will be given tasks to assure the teacher students are staying active and engaged with the material through Nearpod.
Homework.
