Correlation to State Content Standards
7.7.5: Describe the Meso-American achievements in astronomy and mathematics, including the development of the calendar and the Meso-American knowledge of seasonal changes to the civilizations’ agricultural systems.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Describe the scientific and technological achievements of the Maya (zero, roads, astronomy, aqueducts).
2. Complete missing assignments in history and then other classes.

Anticipatory Set (5 min):
Starter: 5W's: Students will complete their starters by identifying the 5 W's from a chunked reading of "This Day in History".
Direct Instruction (x min.)
SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Maya Achievements: Teacher will progress monitor the students who did not complete their assignment for homework last night. Teacher will provide assistant and clarification but students need to complete their own work and not expect to just copy from the teacher.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Mayan Achievements: Teacher will go over the answers to the Maya achievements, provide further explanations and show video clips on the system of roads.
Independent Practice (30 min.)
SDAIE: Close Paragraph/Cornell Notes/Focus Notes/VBQ/Video Clips: Mayan Achievements: Students will be able to identify and describe the Mayan achievements dealing with the creation of the zero, building aqueducts, astronomy, and buidling of roads. Students will be given 10 minutes per section to watch a video and completing their graphic organizer that has a close paragraph, cornell notes, focus notes, and video based questions.
SDAIE: Metacognition: Missing Assignments: Students who completed the assignment will have this time to complete any missing assignment from my class, then other classes. If all is done, they can work on their EdPuzzle then read or preffered activity time.
Homework
EdPuzzle: Maya Architecture, Due Friday by 5p.m
Closure ( 3 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
