Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journal: Read today's passage of "This day in history" and identify the 5 W's by highlighting the passage and finally answering the Essential Question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Model : Students will work directly from the the TCI portal. They will cover the issues happening with Latin America and how Monroe dealt with the problem.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Model: Civil Service Exams: Teacher will explain the assignment. Students will work in groups of four and analyze 10 pictures that deal with China's discoveries and achievements.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: QW: Foreign Policy Challenge: Teacher will go over the students results.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS: Civil Service Exam: Teacher will go over the answers the groups should have gotten by analyzing the picture.
Independent Practice (22 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Whisper Read/QW: Foreign Policy Challenge: Students will read the challenges facing Monroe as president. Student will annotate and complete the QuickWrite.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Graphic Organizer/Group: China's Discoveries: Working in groups, students will analyze 10 pictures that deal with a Chinese achievement. They will have to figure out what it is and its use. Students will then read a short passage dealing with the each achievement and write down the correct answer. Students will then Search a modern version of the old invention.
