7.3: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilization of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.
7.3.2: Describe agricultural, technological, and commercial developments during the Tang and Sung periods.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the issues surrounding civil service exams during the Tang and Sung Dynasties.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will work on identifying two evidence from their journal that will support the CLAIM that is provided for them.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Realia: Civil Service Exams: Teacher will go over the directions of the role playing that will take place. Teacher will explain they will be taking a quick 3 question quiz that will determine their status in the mock society for this assignment.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Civil Service Exam: Teacher will go over the answers and demonstrate how they could have gotten the answer.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Realia/Role Play: Civil Service Exam: Students will have 7 minutes to complete 3 questions that will determine their role in the mock society. This will simulate the civil service exams given to the citizens during the Tang and Sung Dynasties. After students are done with those questions they will reflect on the quiz by answer 3 questions to get how they felt and if they believe tests like these are valid in society.
SDAIE: Book to Paper: Tier II and III Terms: Students be shown pictures of the terms first and try to figure out what the term means. After that students will look up the terms and provide a summary of the term using their own words.
Homework.
