Understanding Geography.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
Identify the 7 continents, equator, and prime meridian on a map.
Explain the creation of the continents.
Estimate location on a map by using latitude and longitude coordinates.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9: Draw evidence from information texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: 5 W's: Students will take a quiz based on their starters from last week. This is to help build students skill of studying and taking a test. Students will then vote for their student SSC representative.
Direct Instruction (5 min.)
SDAIE: Model: Geography Review: Teacher will go over the directions of the assignment with the students. Teacher will explain the time limit between each task before going over the answers. Teacher will also explain to students that their review is for their geography test tomorrow.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Geography Review: Teacher will go over the answers to the each of the sections of the geography review after students have had independent time to come up with the answers. Students will have 7-10 minutes per section before going over the answers.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
SDAIE: Metacognition/TPS: Geography Review: Students will answer a set of questions dealing with the continents, latitude, longitude, and hemispheres as they review for the geography test tomorrow. Students will also review how to locate positions on the map using coordinate points of latitude and longitude.
Homework.

Study for the Geography test tomorrow.
Closure (2 min.)
1. Clean up.
2. Dismiss Class.
Lesson Modifications for GATE, RSP, and EL Students
EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
