7.1.2: Discuss the geographical borders of the empire at its height and the factors that threatened its territorial cohesion.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Explain how Rome went from a Republic to an Empire.
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
Daily Journals: Students will take their Starter Quiz based on last weeks Starters from "This Day in History."
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach/Video Clip: All Hail Cesar: Teacher will clarify how Rome came to be a Republic after each video is played. Students will be given time to share their answers before the explanation.
Guided Practice (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Rome Becomes an Empire: Teacher will go over the answers to the close paragraph that summarizes how Rome became an Empire through Augustus's leadership.
Independent Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: Sentence Stems/Video Clips/Video Based Questions: All Hail Cesar: Students will watch four video clips that explains how Rome became a Republic under the leadership of Julius Cesar. Students will write their sentence stems and then watch the video question. Before all video's are done, students will chose one question and complete that question only as the other members of the group answer theirs. Students will then share their answers.
SDAIE: Whisper Read/Select to Speech/Close Paragraph: Rome Becomes an Empire: Students will read or have the chromebook read the section in their book pages 22-23 (TCI U1; L1; S5) to understand how Rome became an Empire. Using the reading they will complete a summary created by the teacher that explains how Rome became an Empire.
Homework.

2. Explaining how Rome went from a Republic to an Empire.
