7.2: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of Islam in the Middle Ages.
7.2.1: Identify the physical features and describe the climate of the Arabian peninsula, its relationship to surrounding bodies of land and water, and nomadic and sedentary ways of life.

Anticipatory Set (5 min.)
SDAIE: TPS/EQ/Chunked Reading: Starter: Students will read a chunked passage from the History Channel "This Day in History" and answer the essential question by annotating the evidence in the passage. If no evidence is there to answer the passage, students will answer "Not enough information."
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Close Read/Annotate/Talk to Text/Claim: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Teacher will introduce the geographical term PENINSULA to the students and ask them to discuss the term with their group to figure out the definition. After 2 minutes teacher will show a picture of Florida and ask for thumbs up or down if it is a peninsula. Teacher will ask students for the definition of Peninsula verify and check for understanding on the picture again.
After that teacher will lead students in a close paragraph introduction of the Arabian Peninsula. Students will annotate the evidence that supports each Claim from the three paragraphs.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Teacher will go over the annotations and provide further explanations and clarifications after each paragraph that is completed by the students. Teacher will go over the map as well.
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Text to Speech/Annotations/EQ/Chunked Reading/Sentence Stem: GeoChallenge Arabian Peninsula: Students will read and annotate chunked passages from the textbook to be able to explain the geographical impact of the Arabian Peninsula. Students will answer the essential question provided with the reading. Students can use their headphones to have the chunk passages read to them.
SDAIE: Visual/Map: Map Skills Arabian Peninsula: Students will use their textbook to label a map on the Arabian Peninsula with the three continents it is surrounded with, major cities that will play an important role in the unit, seas, and identify the Islamic territory of the area as well.

EL: Projector (visuals), questioning, chunking, cognitive words, repetition, translation in Spanish.
RSP: Projector (visuals), questioning, modified assignments, check for understandings.
GATE: Require answers that will demonstrate depth and complexity of fertilization.
