Correlation to State Content Standards
7.2: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of Islam in the Middle Ages.
7.2.1: Identify the physical features and describe the climate of the Arabian peninsula, its relationship to surrounding bodies of land and water, and nomadic and sedentary ways of life.
8.1.1: Describe the relationship between the moral and political ideas of the Great AwakenÂing and the development of revolutionary fervor.
Expected Student Outcomes (Objective)
Students will be able to:
1. Review for the American Revolution Test (8th Grade).
3. Analyze and debunk myths about Islam (7th Grade).
Common Core Literacy Standard
RH 2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
RH 4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies.
WHST 4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.
WHST 9. Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis reflection, and research.
Anticipatory Set (10 min.) Daily Journals: Students will read two excerpts from "This Day in History" and identify the 5 W's (who, what, when, where, why).
Direct Instruction (15 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Review for the Am. Rev. Test: Teacher will provide any clarification needed to complete their past assignments. Teacher will answer questions as they are proposed.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Direct Teach: Islam Myths: Teacher elaborate on the myths of Islam. Will explain how the media feeds the public these myths in a form of propaganda to achieve views.
Guided Practice (15 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Progress Monitoring: Review for Test: Teacher will answer questions need to complete their past assignments.
7th Grade-SDAIE: TPS/Video Clip: Islam Myths: Teacher and students will review their answers and explain the origins of the myths.
Independent Practice (25 min.)
8th Grade-SDAIE: Metacognition: Review for Test: Students will work on and review for the American Revolution Test. Students will also complete their homework.
7th Grade-SDAIE: Visual/Video Clip: Islam Myths: Students will explain and debunk the myths the media creates around the religion of Islam.
