7.6: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of Medieval Europe.
7.6.2: Describe the spread of Christianity north of the Alps and the roles played by the early church and by the monasteries in its diffusion after the fall of the western half of the Roman Empire.

Anticipatory Set (3 min.)
Starter: Students will complete their daily Essential Question from this day in History which is a chunk reading about what happened today in history and students will answer the DOK 1 style question.
Direct Instruction (10 min.)
SDAIE: Direct Teach: Christianity Expands: Teacher will lecture, clarify and provide further information and insight into how Christianity was able to expand during the Middle Ages after watching the video clip.
Guided Practice (10 min.)
SDAIE: TPS: Christianity Expands: Teacher will guide students into writing their QuickWrite using the CER method by providing a skeleton guideline for students to follow. Teacher will provide an example using the writing prompt "What is the best ice cream flavor?"
Independent Practice (20 min.)
SDAIE: Video Clip/Quick Write/CER: Christianity Expands: Students will watch a quick video clip that explains how and why the Christian Church expanded during this period of time. Students will answer a writing prompt and use the information they have gathered from this lesson to answer it in 5 sentences using the Claim, Evidence, Reason model.
